Ouzo’s for you, Money for Us!

If you visit the Greek and not tasting Ouzo, it seems you have not touched the soul of the Greeks. This is what he said to me by a man who very often visits Greece. Ouzo is an anise flavor beverage widely consumed in Greece. It’s just like pasties in France, or Sambuca in Italy, and other countries in the region. Ouzo can be consumed without the need to be added or mixed with water, but which must be cooled, and as an appetizer served with the fish of the sea. This beverage is also a popular gift for friends and family.

“Ouzo for you and money for us” is the motto of a bar waitress in one of the largest resorts in Greece, The Paralia Katerinis. The Greek Riviera, as everyone called it, was crowded by tourists. Although the show has ended, the shops remained open until eleven o’clock at night. The traveling salesman spoke in a mixture of Bulgarian, Russian, and Serbian, the most widely used by groups of tourists from these countries. They offer half price than the normal price. Everything was decorated by the Greek music of the night and the light coming from each of the existing restaurant. Most of them provide a dish of fish that is delicious and certainly Ouzo.
